IDENTITY AND TOLERANCE WORKSHOPS

The workshop, held by international colleagues, provided students with an insight into the most current international design trends. The first task started with calligraphic basics created by the Korean graphic artist in Hangul language, and then the students had to create a new composition of their own name, combining manual and digital techniques.

The next task was to design posters for the word ‘Tolerance’, and finally the two-week workshop ended with a complex task of designing a small brand image for themselves. The assignments contributed to the students' professional awareness and development of their mind-set, and helped to expand their graphic vision. The tasks of the workshop reflected both the quality and the complexity of the design problems encountered in real-world situations.
At the end of the workshop, based on the decision of an international jury of 18 invited by Agnieszka, the following students will participate in the Emirates Poster Festival in November, Dubai Design Week 2019, at the invitation of a curator and member of the jury, Arafat Al-Naim (UAE).

Congratulations!

Under the guidance of Polish graphic artist Agnieszka Ziemiszewska, an exciting two-week international workshop focusing on the important and universal theme of identity and tolerance will be open to a selected group of METU students from August 26 to September 6, 2019 on the university's Rózsa Street campus.
The program is the result of an international collaboration between Agnieszka Ziemiszewska and two renowned university professors, Byoung Il Sun from South Korea and Arafat Al-Naim from the United Arab Emirates.
At the two-week workshop organized for METU students, their international vision helps participants see the numerous design tasks and issues from different perspectives. During the program, participants will learn about various graphic techniques through practical examples. The work begins with calligraphy assignments, focuses on expanding their technical knowledge on visual identity, and eventually the team reaches the stage of poster design with the theme of tolerance. At the end of the course, participants will be required to present the results of the two weeks in front of an international professional jury.
The three best designs will be presented at Dubai Design Week in November.
The program is funded by the Waclaw Felczak Foundation
