20 years, 20 pictures, 20 stories
Budapest Metropolitan University turned 20 years old! With this series, we would like to honor the events and amazing memories of these past two decades by looking back at stories of our students, alumni, professors and staff members who have been with us on this journey.
Meet Judit Bárkányi, our Art project manager.
How did you end up at METU?
The development of our art programs began in 2009. I was happy to assist Professor Dr András Kepes in this process. For a short while it was the two of us working out these new art programs. After a few months we grew into a team and continued our work together with the new program directors.
In the first year, I was doing everything and anything. :) We were writing accreditation materials with Viki Horváth, we adapted four art programs from Harsányi János Főiskola, and we furnished and equipped the rooms and kitchens of the Rózsa campus. Never have I spent that much time in IKEA as I did then.
We launched 8 art programs in September 2010. Running these was a lot of work. We were working on admissions, study programs, events and we also assisted the professors with my colleagues Andi Balázsi and Tímea Tóth.
There was also work related to the art projects. In the beginning it was only me and the professors, but today we are working on the art projects together with my colleague, Kinga Csiszár.
What's your first memory of METU?
I really liked the friendly atmosphere of the university. It was a small, but very eager team, where we all knew each other. As I was working on all the things mentioned above, I was able to get to know everyone.
Tell us about a determining experience (the kindest, funniest, most exciting or most important) connected to the university!
I have met my husband at METU while adapting the first four art programs. This is definitely my most precious memory.
What is the secret to METU's success?
METU’s ability for continuous improvement is astonishing. In just 10 years, it has become the largest institute for arts with 23 programs – end we are far from stopping.
Where do you see METU in 5-10 years' time?
I believe METU will become a major international university of Hungary with a huge city center campus consisting of multiple buildings, and with plenty of programs in both Hungarian and English.
