20 years of METU – Story of Brigitta Ragó
Budapest Metropolitan University turned 20 years old! With this series, we would like to honor the events and amazing memories of these past two decades by looking back at stories of our students, alumni, professors and staff members who have been with us on this journey.
Meet Brigitta Ragó, our alumna and Event manager.
How did you end up at METU?
I first met METU at the university fair ‘EDUCATIO’ as a young student searching for the right path and university. It was love at first sight, and so my adventure at METU started next September.
I became a member of Marketing Student Team in my third year. We were supporting the work of the university’s event management team with helping out at events. This is how I got to know to the Marketing and Communications Directorate of METU - and when the junior event manager position was advertised in Spring 2019, it was no question that I wanted to apply.
I have learned a lot from our Head of Event Management since then. Thanks to this, this summer I became responsible for organizing events for our international students.
What's your first memory of METU?
My first memory of METU is from the previously mentioned EDUCATIO fair. I remember ending up at the booth of METU, kind of by coincidence. A helpful student came up to us to tell us about the university, and the friendly atmosphere immediately captivated us. I had many plans for the fair, but at that moment I have decided that this was the one and only university I want to study at.
Tell us about a determining experience (the kindest, funniest, most exciting or most important) connected to the university!
My most memorable and determining experience is the first event I attended as member of the Marketing Student Team, which was the first TEDx event organized by METU. I remember that we were all quite anxious about representing the university at such a high-end event, but on the other hand, there was a level of excitement I only ever felt before when seeing my unopened Christmas presents.
I studied event management despite being very introverted. Those who are close to me know that I always had doubts whether this was the right direction for me. It was at this event that I realized: yes, THIS is what I really want to do.
What do you think lies behind the success of METU?
I think the success of METU lies in the fact that our professors have solid knowledge from real-life professional experience in their field of expertise, and that they are eager to share these with the students as well. I think this is what makes even the driest subjects easy to like and to learn.
The lectures of Professor Tamás Köves have been very inspiring for me. He is really one of those professors who teaches with practical examples and own experiences rather than expecting students to memorize textbooks word for word. I still remember every instructive story he told us about events he organized. I think this teaching method is what helps us students to stand out from the crowd.
Where do you see METU in 5-10 years' time?
The university went through an enormous growth and development even over the past five years. I am sure this trend will continue in the future.
