20 years of METU – Story of Mohamed Nur Al-Chhabi
Budapest Metropolitan University turned 20 years old! With this series, we would like to honor the events and amazing memories of these past two decades by looking back at stories of our students, alumni, professors and staff members who have been with us on this journey.
Meet Mohamed Nur Al-Chhabi, student of our International Business and Economy BA.
What's your first memory of METU?
I first met the university during my high school years. My sister had a project at METU for which she had to build a booth for an event at Hungexpo, and she invited me to the workroom of the university to help her. I really liked the environment, the enthusiastic people and how students from different programs and fields cooperated with each other. We were able to create a beautiful piece of work in the end.
I fell in love with this atmosphere, and it really encouraged me to start my professional journey at METU.
Tell us about your most determining experiences (the kindest, funniest, most exciting or most important) connected to the university!
Our teachers assigned us plenty of project works and shared numerous competitions with us during our university years.
For one of our practical courses on project management we had to plan a real-life project. This was a huge opportunity for me. Our project was about the development of one of METU’s buildings. It was very exciting. We had to prepare our project in accordance with the actual building design plan.
An amazing team of marketing, media and management students came together to carry out this project in the best possible way. This was also a great opportunity for networking, as we were able to collaborate with other teams by analyzing each other’s projects.
What is the most important lesson METU has taught you?
Don’t be afraid to begin over again. I have also been on the wrong path for a long time, but I learned that with hard work and cooperation, nothing is impossible.
I would like to thank METU for helping me find my own path and for creating this supportive community.
What do you think lies behind the success of METU?
I believe the success of METU is based on numerous factors. Apart from the outstanding education system, community building and the good relationship between professors and students are also important.
METU cooperates with and relies on its students in order to help us develop. The numerous student surveys and events are great examples of how METU involves us and works together with us by taking our opinions into consideration.
Where do you see METU in 5-10 years' time?
METU has plenty of international partners and it offers numerous Erasmus opportunities, competitions and applications for its students. METU can be a steppingstone towards opportunities abroad - only sky is the limit.
