METU Student on an International Tourism Conference in Veszprém
Four master's students in the subject of Heritage Management gave a joint lecture under the professional guidance of Dr. Bassa Lia, a lecturer at the METU Institute of Tourism and Marketing.
The conference "Tourism as a Driver or Barrier for Quality of Life" of the University of Pannonia in Veszprém took place online from 9-11 September 2020, instead of the originally planned date of May.
The research is based on international examples of different festivals within the field of heritage management. Through the presentation of the built, natural and intangible cultural heritage, the topic was elaborated by the team members, in addition, local tourism and heritage management and sustainability issues were formulated, and economic and environmental issues were analyzed by our international and Hungarian students.
Inge Chan from Hong Kong reported on a religious holiday, Amal Das on a seaside handcraft dragon festival, Sai Kiran from India on a diverse cultural festival around a palace from India, and Noémi Aleva from Hungary gave the example of Sziget Festival, a multinational music and cultural festival.
Their presentation on the results of their research was titled, “How Do Local Communities Become Hosts?”. During the discussion following the presentation, the participants of the international conference stated that the topic raised is extremely topical and its theoretical basis can be widely applied.
