What to expect as an international student studying abroad in Budapest
From Adriana, METU International Relations BA student
Budapest is one of the best cities for international students for several reasons.
Here, you have the perfect mix of entertainment, a nice atmosphere, and affordable prices.
Budapest’s beautiful spots account for yet another reason why this city is perfect for students. Here you can find restaurants with tasty food, nice cafés, bars, parks, and more.
Additionally, you can always visit tourist places which are just as beautiful and entertaining. Some of the most popular ones include the Fisherman’s Bastion, Buda Castle, Margaret Island, museums, art galleries, and the thermal baths, just to mention a few.
If your schedule allows you to do it, you can always make some time after class to relax and visit these places with friends.
Personally, I consider student life in Budapest to be an unforgettable experience. You get to meet so many friendly people from all around the world, have the option to do countless entertaining activities, and visit amazing spots.
All this in a place that feels like home, even though you’re far away from home.
Tips for your first semester studying abroad
“Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire.”
From Eduarda, METU International Relations BA student
Your first semester at university can be intimidating - so here are a few tips to not only help you survive, but to make sure you make the best out of it.
1. Orientations & Campus tours are a MUST!
Orientations are a great way to meet other new students and gain a bit of insight into how things work at the university. If you attend campus tours, you are less likely to get lost on campus.
2. Be open to meeting new people
You are surrounded by new people in a new environment. Connect with new classmates and new roommates. You will be spending the next few years with these people, so make the best of it.
3. Be Aware
It's important that you stay aware and on top of all the school work, projects and assignments. Secondly, be aware of your needs, sleep, eat and have a social life.
Are you ready to have the best experience studying abroad?
